Awash Wine
Marktleider van de Ethiopische wijnsector. Ontstaan in 1936 door een Griekse familie in Addis Abeba, later uitbreiding in Mekanisa. Na nationalisatie in 1974 verder als staatsbedrijf Awash Wine. Sinds 2013 meerderheidsbelang private investeerder 8 Miles LLP. Twee wineries in Addis Abeba en Lideta en Mekanisa plus distributiecentrum.
In Merti Jeju langs de Awash in de Rift-vallei circa 225 ha wijngaard op 1250 m op vulkanische bodem met druppelirrigatie. Druiven onder meer chenin blanc, syrah, cabernet sauvignon en merlot. Dubbele oogst door afwezigheid van klassieke seizoenen. Exportlijn Gebeta. Zoekt importeur.
