Chateau Couhins Lurton
Château Couhins-Lurton, het kleinste domein van de familie Lurton en een Classified Growth van Graves, bevindt zich in de parochie Martillac, op een van de mooiste locaties in de regio. De rijke geschiedenis van het landgoed gaat terug tot de 17e eeuw, toen het oorspronkelijk werd beheerd door de familie Banchereau.
Deze familie zorgde voor de modernisering van het domein en legde de basis voor de toekomstige groei. In de 19e eeuw ging het landgoed over naar de familie Hanappier, die de wijngaarden verder ontwikkelde en het domein uitbouwde tot een vooraanstaand wijnhuis. Gedurende de 20e eeuw kwam het domein echter in verval door verwaarlozing van de wijngaard.
Dit leidde ertoe dat André Lurton in 1972 het landgoed overnam en begon met de heropleving van de wijngaard. Met veel toewijding en passie werkte hij aan de restauratie van de wijngaarden en de wijnmakerij. In 1992 werd het domein volledig gekocht van de familie Hanappier, waarna het landgoed verder werd gerenoveerd en de wijnproductie opnieuw op een hoog niveau werd gebracht.
Sindsdien is het domein onder leiding van de familie Lurton een toonaangevende naam in de Graves-regio geworden. Het terroir van Château Couhins-Lurton is uniek, met een combinatie van klei- en kalksteenbodems die de basis vormen voor wijnen met karakteristieke finesse en complexiteit.
De cuvée Acte II, een van de iconische wijnen van het domein, weerspiegelt dit terroir perfect met zijn frisse en toegankelijke stijl, terwijl het ook een moderne draai geeft aan de traditionele wijnproductie van het domein. Château Couhins-Lurton, the smallest estate of the Lurton family and a Classified Growth of Graves, sits in the parish of Martillac, on one of the finest sites in the region. The rich history of the estate goes back to the 17th century, when it was originally run by the Banchereau family.
This family modernised the estate and laid the basis for later growth. In the 19th century the estate passed to the Hanappier family, who developed the vineyards further and built the estate into a leading house. During the 20th century the estate fell into decline through neglect of the vineyard.
This led André Lurton in 1972 to take over the estate and begin the revival of the vineyard. With much dedication and passion he worked on restoring the vineyards and the winery. In 1992 the estate was fully bought from the Hanappier family, after which the estate was further renovated and wine production was brought back to a high level.
Since then the estate under the lead of the Lurton family has become a leading name in the Graves region. The terroir of Château Couhins-Lurton is unique, with a mix of clay and limestone soils that form the basis for wines with characteristic finesse and complexity.
The cuvée Acte II, one of the iconic wines of the estate, reflects this terroir perfectly with its fresh and accessible style, while also giving a modern turn to the traditional wine production of the estate. Today the wines of Château Couhins-Lurton are praised for their excellent craft and the careful balance between tradition and innovation.
