Domaine de l'Avellan
Mathieu Dodin nam in 2018 drieënhalf hectare wijngaard over bij Collobrières in het Var, een uur rijden ten zuiden van Toulon. Tot 2023 moest hij druiven aan de coöperatie leveren. Sinds 2024 maakt hij zelf wijn op het domein. Hij ging in 2019 biologisch, al verdiende de coöperatie daarmee niets extra.
Na uitgraving blijft drieënhonderdzeventig hectare wijngaard over veertien percelen. De meeste stokken staan sinds de jaren zestig. Rassen zijn Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan, Mourvèdre en Ugni Blanc. Mathieu plantte Rolle op eigen onderstokken en entte na drie jaar. De wijngaard ligt op bijna vierhonderd meter met continentaal en mediterraan klimaat.
Schapen bemesten de percelen in de winter. Mathieu maakt natuurwijn zonder reacidificatie, gum arabic of PVPP zoals gebruikelijk in de coöperatie. Côtes de Provence keurt zijn wijnen zelden goed omdat ze buiten het commerciële profiel vallen. Marta, zijn partner uit Wrocław, helpt op het landgoed.
Het gebouw is circa driehonderd jaar oud en was vroeger een veeboerderij zonder kelder.

Mathieu Dodin took over three and a half hectares of vineyard in 2018 near Collobrières in the Var, an hour south of Toulon. Until 2023 he had to deliver grapes to the cooperative. Since 2024 he makes wine himself on the estate. He went organic in 2019, even though the cooperative earned nothing extra from that.
After excavation three hundred and seventy hectares of vineyard remain across fourteen plots. Most vines have stood since the 1960s. Varieties are Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan, Mourvèdre and Ugni Blanc. Mathieu planted Rolle on its own rootstock and grafted after three years. The vineyard sits at almost four hundred metres with a continental and Mediterranean climate.
Sheep manure the plots in winter. Mathieu makes natural wine without reacidification, gum arabic or PVPP as is usual in the cooperative. Côtes de Provence rarely approves his wines because they fall outside the commercial profile. Marta, his partner from Wrocław, helps on the estate.
The building is about three hundred years old and was once a livestock farm without a cellar.
