Domaine Des Freres Laffitte
Domaine Des Freres Laffitte
The family of the brothers Christophe and Sébastien Laffitte has worked on the estate for generations. Christophe and Sébastien are hard at work shaping the estate fully to their own hand. Passionate about vines and wine, they have gradually built an ideal vineyard.
A vineyard able to express all the richness and complexity of the terroir. The wines and Armagnacs are therefore a direct reflection of their soul: straightforward, authentic and generous. Les Frères Laffitte has 150 hectares in Côtes de Gascogne, in the south-west of France.
The grapes they grow are typical of this area, Petit & Gros Manseng, Colombard, Ugni Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Marselan and Tannat. The wines represent the terroir of their vineyards with a sandy clay soil and a climate influenced by both the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees mountain range.
The vines stand on the highest hills of Ayzieu, on the edge of Gascony. The terroir is very typical of Armagnac. It consists of a tawny sand surface with earth in the subsoil. These two very specific elements give the wines minerality, freshness and character.
The climate benefits from the influence of the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees. The rainy and mild winters quickly give way to hot and dry summers followed by a often beautiful late season. This very special climate gives the vineyards exceptional ripening potential and leads to red wines marked by very ripe fruit.
For each plot a tailored technical route is set out. The white wines are made from Colombard, Gros and Petit Manseng, but also from Sauvignon Blanc, Gris and Chardonnay. For the rosés and red wines they grow Cabernet Franc and Tannat.
