Les Vignobles Torpez
Saint-Tropez, een idyllisch dorp in de Provence, dankt zijn naam aan een oude legende. Bijna 2.000 jaar geleden zou de Romeinse officier Torpé uit Pisa op een klein bootje naar de kust van de Provence zijn gedreven, waar zijn lichaam aanspoelde en het dorp zijn naam kreeg. Het verhaal van San Torpé di Pisa, die zijn weg naar het zuiden vond, leeft voort in de lokale cultuur en tradities.
Vandaag de dag wordt de patroonheilige van Saint-Tropez jaarlijks geëerd tijdens het Bravade-festival, een kleurrijk evenement dat al meer dan vijf eeuwen plaatsvindt en gewijd is aan de beschermer van het dorp. In 1908 werd de Torpez-wijnmakerij opgericht door een lokale wijnbouwfamilie, en sindsdien speelt de wijngaard een belangrijke rol in de identiteit van het dorp.
Vandaag de dag, met een hernieuwde focus op kwaliteit, blijft de Torpez-wijnmakerij de oudste operationele wijnmakerij in de Var, Provence. De wijngaarden bevinden zich in een unieke geografische omgeving, omringd door de Middellandse Zee, de Golf van Saint-Tropez en het Massif des Maures-gebergte, met een bodem die bijdraagt aan de mineraliteit en complexiteit van de wijnen.
De wijngaarden van Torpez profiteren van een uitzonderlijk klimaat, met koele briesjes die het hete mediterrane weer temperen. De wijngaarden, verspreid over bijna 100 hectare en 200 afzonderlijke percelen, doen denken aan een mozaïek van wijntuinen. Omringd door pijnbomen en olijfbomen vormen ze een spectaculair natuurlijk landschap.
De druiven worden met de hand geplukt, vaak vroeg in de ochtend om hun frisheid te behouden. Dankzij geduld en precisie in de wijnproductie ontstaan wijnen die de elegantie, balans en schoonheid van het terroir van Saint-Tropez weerspiegelen. De Torpez-wijnen belichamen niet alleen de natuur van het landschap, maar vormen ook een eerbetoon aan de rijke geschiedenis en cultuur van dit iconische dorp.

Saint-Tropez, an idyllic village in Provence, takes its name from an old legend. Almost 2.000 years ago the Roman officer Torpé from Pisa is said to have drifted in a small boat to the coast of Provence, where his body washed ashore and the village took his name. The story of San Torpé di Pisa, who found his way south, lives on in local culture and traditions.
Today the patron saint of Saint-Tropez is honoured each year at the Bravade festival, a colourful event that has taken place for more than five centuries and is dedicated to the protector of the village. In 1908 the Torpez winery was founded by a local growing family. Since then the vineyard has played an important role in the identity of the village.
Today, with a renewed focus on quality, the Torpez winery remains the oldest working winery in the Var, Provence. The vineyards sit in a unique geographic setting, ringed by the Mediterranean Sea, the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and the Massif des Maures, with a soil that adds minerality and complexity to the wines.
The vineyards of Torpez enjoy an exceptional climate, with cool breezes that temper the hot Mediterranean weather. The vineyards, spread over almost 100 hectares and 200 separate plots, recall a mosaic of wine gardens. Ringed by pine and olive trees they form a striking natural landscape.
