Stamland
Waarschijnlijk verzamelde men de trosjes druiven.
Homeland
Vitis vinifera is the European wine grape. Its homeland is Armenia. In eastern Turkey a primitive ancestral form still grows. It climbs high into the trees. Small bunches of blue grapes hang like a waterfall.
The first settlement of early humans, originally nomads, arose 8000 years before our era at Anau, Turkestan, on the border of Russia and Iran. In a warm climate grapes ferment quickly. Wine can then arise. Whether people already drank wine then is not certain. They probably gathered the grape bunches.
Levensboom
Tree of life
The story of Noah is well known. His ark ran aground on Mount Ararat, on the east side of the Armenian mountains. Traces of the first Vitis vinifera were found there. The oldest flood stories date from well over 2000 years before Christ. In many stories people drink wine after the ark runs aground.
The vineyard was then called the tree of life. That image still appears often on Armenian and Anatolian carpets.
