Overzicht

De Loire loopt van het Massif Central naar de Atlantische Oceaan. Wijngaarden liggen vooral vanaf Blois tot de monding.

De wijnen hebben meestal geen hoog alcoholgehalte en een frisse smaak. Ze zijn jong drinkbaar en gaan koel, ook het rood.

Bekende witte namen: Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé en Muscadet. Pouilly-Fumé is Loire, Pouilly-Fuissé is Bourgogne. Rosé d'Anjou is bekend. Rood: Chinon en Bourgueil.

Overview

The Loire runs from the Massif Central to the Atlantic. Vineyards lie mainly from Blois to the mouth.

The wines usually have modest alcohol and a fresh taste. They are drinkable young and are served cool, including the red.

Well-known white names: Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé and Muscadet. Pouilly-Fumé is Loire, Pouilly-Fuissé is Bourgogne. Rosé d'Anjou is familiar. Red: Chinon and Bourgueil.

Pays Nantais rond Nantes: zacht klimaat, Muscadet, vaak al enkele maanden na de oogst op fles.

Anjou: gematigd klimaat, rood, wit, rosé, mousserend en zoet. Saumur sluit qua stijl eerder bij Touraine aan: fruitig rood en wit, soms mousserend.

Touraine: rood en wit, steeds vaker Sauvignon, met groeiend aandeel mousserend. Langs de middenloop liggen onder meer de Orléanais.

Sub-regions

Pays Nantais around Nantes: a mild climate, Muscadet, often bottled a few months after harvest.

Anjou: a temperate climate, red, white, rosé, sparkling and sweet. Saumur is closer in style to Touraine: fruity red and white, sometimes sparkling.

Touraine: red and white, more and more Sauvignon, with a growing sparkling share. Along the middle reach lie among others the Orléanais.
