Languedoc en Roussillon dekken de zuidoostkust van Frankrijk, van Arles tot de Spaanse grens. Samen zijn ze het grootste wijnbouwgebied van Frankrijk.

Belangrijke rassen: Grenache en Terret, blauw en wit, plus Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Picpoul, Chardonnay, Clairette, Cinsault en Muscat.

Bekende namen: Corbières, Minervois, Clairette en Roussillon.

Overview

Languedoc and Roussillon cover the south-east coast of France, from Arles to the Spanish border. Together they are the largest winegrowing area in France.

Main varieties: Grenache and Terret, black and white, plus Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Picpoul, Chardonnay, Clairette, Cinsault and Muscat.

Well-known names: Corbières, Minervois, Clairette and Roussillon.

Limoux en zoete wijn

Rond Limoux is Blanquette de Limoux mousserend van Mauzac, Chardonnay en Chenin, deels volgens de flesgisting van Champagne. De naam Champagne is daar niet toegestaan.

Banyuls, Collioure, Maury en Rivesaltes maken zoete wijn, vaak als aperitief. Tijdens de gisting gaat brandewijn bij de most. Boven ongeveer 17 procent alcohol stopt de gisting. Restsuiker blijft. Dat is mutage, zoals bij Port.

Limoux and sweet wine

Around Limoux, Blanquette de Limoux is sparkling from Mauzac, Chardonnay and Chenin, partly by the bottle fermentation of Champagne. The name Champagne is not allowed there.

Banyuls, Collioure, Maury and Rivesaltes make sweet wine, often as an aperitif. During fermentation brandy is added to the must. Above about 17 percent alcohol fermentation stops. Residual sugar remains. That is mutage, as with Port.
